A carbon-friendly stay in the heart of brown trout country.

Owen River Lodge sits in the heart of brown trout country, but also offers a good base if you’re wanting to explore the local area. With two national parks and one of the country’s most spectacular rivers nearby you can have the best of New Zealand’s wilderness areas right at your doorstep.

The Nelson Lakes National Park to the east is home to two beautiful alpine lakes - Rotoiti and Rotoroa. The surrounding peaks and ranges provide plenty of good hiking, some of it quite challenging if you’re up for it. To the west the Kahurangi National Park encompasses a vast wilderness area that heads north to Golden Bay and west to the Tasman Sea coast. Once again the options to explore this area are diverse. Both areas are best experienced with guides if you want to enjoy the best they have to offer, and keep it safe.

Owen River Lodge is also a carbon-positive lodge, taking big, meaningful steps to care for the environment and local ecology, and their staff and the local community. This boutique lodge is small and intimate, with a maximum of 12 guests at any one time. Accommodation is in six beautifully appointed garden cottages, each with a view of the Owen River valley and nearby granite escarpments of the Kahurangi National Park. This is big country.
